The Fishing Boat

The fishing vessel HOTSPUR is a 14 metre, (46 foot), aluminium purpose built charter boat. The Hotspur has a fully enclosed cabin, as well as outside coverings to ensure passenger comfort and safety, with seating in the shade and a spacious deck. Surveyed to carry up to 20 passengers and 3 crew, the Hotspur is the largest charter vessel in the Kaikoura area.

All quality fishing equipment is either Penn or Shimano.
Onboard facilities include: B.B.Q., Galley, & toilet

We provide:

  • All fishing equipment including; rods, reels, bait, tackle, crayfish pots, and rod holders
  • Ice, to keep fish chilled on board
  • All safety equipment including life jackets of all sizes
  • B.B.Q. breakfast (full day charter)
  • Tea and coffee

The Crew

The owner and one of two fully qualified skippers is Peter Cleall, who has been fishing for over 40 years. Fishing professionally for 33 years as a commercial fisherman, Peter has also worked as a charter operator for the past 14 years.

Mike Vallance- Skipper, grew up fishing in the Marlborough Sounds, and has been charter fishing in Kaikoura for the past 5 years. His enthusiasm and expertise is a real asset to our team, and Mike prides himself on giving our customers the best fishing experience in Kaikoura.

Pete Butcher – Crew. Pete has been working for Seamist Fishing Charters for over 6 years. He brings his long time experience, and vast knowledge of the Kaikoura area to our team, With a passion for fishing, and an equally strong sense of humour, Pete will make your fishing trip the adventure of a lifetime.

Campbell Cleall – Crew. Campbell is our youngest crew member, born and raised fishing in Kaikoura. Campbell is a keen fisherman, ready to help in all aspects, to make your day enjoyable, fun and memorable.
